Environmental Education – A visit to the Rio San Luis

Last week, students from the UGA Spring Semester group visited the Rio San Luis with students from the Lower San Luis Elementary School. Nine elementary school students, in grades 1-6, participated in the afternoon activity.

Under the guidance of ecology professor Scott Connelly, UGA and San Luis students alike learned about the diversity of life that can be found in our local rivers and streams. The students used nets and trays to capture aquatic macroinvertebrates, including mayflies, stoneflies, damselflies, caddisflies, many tadpoles, and even a crab.
