Hola! My name is Lexi, and I am a photography intern this summer at UGA Costa Rica. Along with doing some awesome photography projects, I will also be posting to the blog frequently! It’s only May, and the campus is in full swing for summer. I will not be the only one writing this summer; I will also have my fellow interns (who are all working on different projects) be writing posts to let you guys know what cool projects they’re up to.
So, I’ve been here about a week and am loving it. Living on the UGACR campus is like summer camp, but ten times better. The views are incredible. The staff is outstanding and caring. The food is the best thing I’ve ever tasted. And I have met so many new and exciting friends already. When I first arrived, I thought to myself, “Oh my gosh, Lexi. What were you thinking when you chose to come down here for nine weeks!?” But as I made new friends and went on exciting new adventures, I miss home less and less.
I believe the best part is that not everyone here is from UGA. Right now we have a group on campus from North Carolina State. They are here for a teaching fellowship. It is so cool to be able to sit down with them and talk about how different Wolfpack country is from Bulldog country! It’s good to know that when I leave for the summer, I will be able to have friends in other places, including right here in San Luis. Everyone I have met seems to show that Costa Ricans are the nicest, most generous people in the world! I was out with people in Santa Elena over the weekend and was talking to Beatriz, our receptionist at the campus. I complimented her cardigan and she told me to borrow it anytime I want. This is just a small example of the kindness of the Costa Rican people.
P.S: I will also be posting pictures frequently on our new photo blog! Please stop by and check it out! http://www.ugacostarica.tumblr.com
