Last night marked Monteverde’s sixth annual Festival of Lights, signifying the start of the Christmas season.
Families from all over the Monteverde region lined the central streets of Santa Elena in anticipation for a parade of local bands playing seasonal music, floats with Christmas decor, and of course, Santa Claus (or three).
I attended the events with a group of our naturalists, interns, and tourists, and we all agreed that it was a delightful cultural experience. While many of us from the U.S. and abroad are used to a chilly holiday season, we finally felt a little bit of Christmas spirit in this warm, humid climate.
