Hiking and Insects with the Minnesota Zoo

Melanie Sorensen, the program coordinator from the Minnesota Zoo and a previous resident naturalist at UGACR, brought a student group to campus to learn about the flora and fauna in the area.

I went on a hike with the group to the beautiful San Luis waterfall. Many of the girls braved the ice cold water while taking a mid-hike break at the falls.

Post-hike, the girls grabbed nets to catch insects on the main road between the waterfall and campus. After collecting and storing their insects, they were able to inspect the insects and identify them upon reaching the lab back on campus.
