Costa Rica has endless scenic landscapes, from beaches to forests, and all in between. Did you know, that among those beautiful landscapes there are more than 200 volcanic formations in Costa Rica? Of those 200, over 110 show some type of activity, and five of them are active! They are Poás Volcano, Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, Irazú Volcano, Tenorio Volcano, and Turrialba Volcano.
Poás Volcano has the largest active crater in the world (nearly one mile in diameter), and Arenal Volcano was once one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world. Nearly all UGA Costa Rica program participants have the opportunity to visit Arenal.
