Spotted: Tarantula – True or False

True or False:  A tarantula can live up to 30 years in the wild.

Partially true! This fact depends entirely on the sex of the tarantula. Female tarantulas can live up to 30 years, while their male counterparts have a significantly lower life expectancy of around a decade. Female tarantulas are also larger and stockier than male tarantulas. In these months of transition from the rainy to the dry season, there have been quite a few tarantula sightings around campus.

Love is in the air.

Could it be mating season for these arachnids? A burrowing species, tarantulas are usually only spotted when the male tarantula ventures out to find a female tarantula in the hopes of mating with her.
